History:
2016 Origins:
Two foundational workshops were held—one by Grainger CEME with NASA and IEEE, and another by AIAA—to explore electric and hybrid-electric propulsion for civil and military aviation. Experts recommended collaboration between AIAA and IEEE to advance the field.
2018 Launch:
The first EATS was held in Cincinnati, Ohio with 172 participants. Introduced “Rolling Recaps” to summarize key technical papers and panel sessions, now hosted on AIAA Engage.
Growth and Expansion:
2019: Held in Indianapolis, Indiana with 270 participants.
2020 & 2021: Virtual events with 307 and 322 participants respectively.
2022: Partnered with IEEE/ITEC for the first time; held in Anaheim, CA as ITEC+ with over 665 registrants.
2023: Collaborated with AIAA Aviation conference; hosted in San Diego.
Upcoming EATS:
2026 – The 2026 Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium will be held jointly with ITEC+ from June 10-12, 2026, at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. The broader conference focuses on the transition from conventional vehicles to advanced electrified vehicles, covering topics such as components, systems, standards, and grid interface technologies related to electrified transportation. It aims to foster connections between industry and academia, helping the industry in the electrification process.
