Changes to chapter officers need to be submitted to IEEE. Please report changes to IEEE via the vTools.OfficerReporting tool. Access to the tool requires the use of an IEEE Account. *If your chapter is not listed correctly and you submitted your changes via vTools, please contact the TEC Office.
Forming a Chapter
TEC encourages any interest group in any region to initiate a TEC chapter, provided there is a minimum of 12 active TEC members volunteering to devote their time to the chapter’s activities and have interest in the TEC field of interest.
Petitions for IEEE Society and Technical Council Chapters and Joint Chapters can be submitted online after the proposed Chapter formation has been agreed to by the Section Chair. Please contact your Section Chair directly to begin the process. Use the IEEE Geographic Roster to find contact information.
Once the proposal has been accepted by the Section Chair, please visit https://mga.ieee.org/volunteer-hub/geographic-unit-operations/formations-and-petitions and follow the instructions to submit a petition.
Chapter Reporting
TEC Chapters are required to report their activities and current officers to IEEE. Please use the links below to access the necessary forms.
Chapter Activity
- IEEE Vtools – Chapter Activity Report (TEC Chapters & Student Branch Chapters) Non-student chapters can receive $200 from your Section for submitted reports via vTools)
- Report your Chapter Meetings/Events to TEC so that we can further promote your events on the TEC website, newsletter and social media channels!
Chapter Officer Reporting
- IEEE Chapter Officer Reporting (for TEC and joint Chapters)
- IEEE Student Branch Chapter Officer Reporting (for TEC Student Branch Chapters)
More information about chapter administration can be found on the IEEE site.
Please note that a chapter may be considered inactive when they do not hold at least two meetings a year or fail to report their meetings to the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities. Units that have not reported for three years will be dissolved at the next meeting of the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities Board.
Chapter Spotlight
IEEE TEC Beijing Section Chapter – Nine Years of SETTE Driving China’s Transportation-Electrification Ecosystem The IEEE TEC Beijing Section Chapter (TEC802), in partnership with the Transportation Electrification Committee of the China Power Supply Society, has convened the annual Symposium on Emerging Technology of Transportation Electrification (SETTE) for nine consecutive years. SETTE is an interdisciplinary, open forum that tackles scientific challenges and key technologies in electrified mobility, especially pathways to carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality. Through keynote addresses and focused panels, SETTE knits together universities, research institutes, and industry partners across the full chain, from core technologies and critical equipment to system-level integration. In the past two years, SETTE welcomed more than 300 delegates from over 100 leading domestic and international organizations, including renowned scholars, corporate experts, and graduate students, generating powerful spill-over effects across the sector. Expanding Global Synergies Beyond the symposium, TEC802 actively fosters international partnerships. Recently, IEEE TEC Chair Dr. Don Tan visited Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering, engaging in dynamic dialogues with early-career faculty and postdoctoral researchers on global electrification trends. Dr. Tan’s China visit further strengthened institutional bonds: • At the China Electrotechnical Society (CIES), discussions culminated in the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CIES and IEEE TEC. This agreement formalizes collaboration in academic exchange, membership development, and talent cultivation, leveraging complementary strengths to advance technological innovation and global scientific-cultural ties. • At the China Railway Society (CRS), Dr. Tan’s visit paved the way for future cooperation in rail electrification and next-generation mobility solutions. These engagements underscore IEEE TEC’s commitment to building global alliances that accelerate sustainable transportation. What can your Chapter do now? • Connect with the Transportation Electrification Committee of the China Power Supply Society to co-host the next SETTE, inviting top-tier experts from global industry and academia. • Reach out to TEC Chapters worldwide to design joint or hybrid forums that extend SETTE’s impact. • Engage neighboring IEEE Society/Council Chapters, spanning transportation, power electronics, energy and beyond, to inject cross-disciplinary resources and shape the future of SETTE.
