Background and Motivation: On-road transportation electrification is advancing rapidly, with electric vehicles (EVs) playing an increasingly important role in energy systems worldwide. While early progress has focused on vehicle technologies, continued advancement depends on coordinated developments across charging infrastructure, electric power systems, communications, and operational practices.
As electrification expands across light-, medium-, and heavy-duty applications, new challenges and opportunities are emerging at the intersection of transportation and energy systems. These include high-power charging, grid integration, interoperability, system reliability, and the evolving role of EVs as flexible energy resources.
This special issue of IEEE Electrification Magazine seeks to present clear, tutorial-oriented perspectives on on-road electrification, spanning technologies, systems, and applications. Contributions that connect technical innovation with system-level considerations and practical experience are particularly encouraged.
Topics of Interest: Contributions are invited on topics including, but not limited to:
- Electrified vehicle technologies (light-, medium-, and heavy-duty)
- Charging infrastructure (depot, corridor, and high-power systems)
- Power electronics and charging system design
- Grid integration, interconnection, and load management
- Managed charging and demand flexibility
- Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and bidirectional energy flows
- Communication protocols, interoperability, and standards
- Cybersecurity and data architectures
- Fleet operations and charging strategies
- Aggregation and coordination of charging systems
- Economic analysis, rate design, and business models
- Policy, regulatory frameworks, and market structures
- Real-world deployments, demonstrations, and lessons learned

Submission Guidelines:
- Articles should follow IEEE Electrification Magazine author guidelines
- Submissions must be made via the IEEE Author Portal
- Articles should be accessible and tutorial in nature, suitable for a broad technical audience
- Extensive mathematical derivations should be avoided
- Manuscripts must not be under review or published elsewhere
