Welcome to the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community!

Our mission is to coordinate all things transportation, electric and smart, within IEEE.  Honestly, our task gets bigger every day with applications that would have been thought of as “futuristic” if not downright crazy just a few years ago, from autonomous cars to fully electric airplanes and super high-speed trains.

On this website and throughout our offerings, you will find feature articles, podcasts, as well as links to tutorials and webinars on all aspects of transportation electrification from the world's foremost experts (on the “Education” page of this website).  Our Newsletter offers short and insightful technical articles on the state-of-the-art.

TEC membership is free if you are already a member of a number of IEEE societies and groups (AESS, DEIS, IAS, IES, ITSS, PELS, PES, SC, and SA), only $10 otherwise and $5 for students.

I am writing this as the world leaders recently gathered in Glasgow for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.  The need for action on this matter is clear.  Once again, engineers will be tasked to provide practical solutions to this momentous issue.  We have been the unsung heroes of humanity’s technical progress for centuries, and do not plan to rest on our laurels. Transportation electrification, including smart mobility, have a key role to play in this transformation.  Nothing new to many of us who have been involved in this field for a while, but an exciting perspective for young engineers and students who are choosing a profession that can make a difference on the future of mankind like rarely before.  And perhaps for the first time, this difference is an essentially worldwide effort, with research, applications, and start-ups in transportation flourishing across the planet.

More immediately, within TEC you can find general information in this industry, and also news of upcoming conferences.  ITEC India is scheduled for December 2021, in collaboration with SAE India.  The 2022 IEEE ICCVE – International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo - is planned for Florida in March.  ITEC North America in 2022 will be joint with EATS (AIAA/IEEE Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium) bringing an element of aviation to this transportation conference (June 2022).  A similar conference, ITEC Asia-Pacific is planned for late October on the Campus of Zhejiang University in China.  More conferences from our sponsors can be found on the TEC website (tec.ieee.org).  An extended version of our Newsletter is available four times a year, each with a special focus.  A number of Transactions are also available, such as the Transactions on Transportation Electrification and the Transactions from our various society sponsors.

It has never been a better time to be involved with transportation electrification, and we are proud to help organize and disseminate cutting-edge information on the subject.  And, while doing so, stay safe and healthy!
