Membership Committee

The IEEE Transportation Electrification Council (TEC) is a Technical Council within the IEEE that serves as “one voice” for Transportation Electrification and coordinates broad and deep activities in the growing electrification revolution across transportation domains.

These domains include advances in electric and hybrid cars, more-electric ships and aircraft, rail systems, personal transport, and the motive, storage, power grid, electronic intelligence, and control technologies that make them possible. TEC provides a platform to innovate, create, and collaborate on all aspects of transportation electrification within the IEEE.

About Membership

Per the IEEE Technical Activities

, “4.1.B. IEEE Technical Councils IEEE Technical Councils may be established by the IEEE Technical Activities Board for the purpose of providing a continuing mechanism for two or more IEEE Societies, called Member Societies, to work together in a multi-disciplinary technical area of mutual interest, primarily through conferences and publications. A technical council has Member Societies but no individual members. In all respects except membership, a Technical Council operates generally like a Society. The representatives on the Technical Councils, are to be designated by the Member Societies and are to elect their own President and other officers. Other policies and operational details shall be specified by each Technical Council. (excerpt from IEEE Bylaw I-401.) Creation of a new IEEE Technical Council must be endorsed by the IEEE Technical Activities Board, and approved by the IEEE Board of Directors.”

Individuals can join the Transportation Electrification Council as a Participant and through the Council's sponsored activities, including well-recognized Conferences and Peer-reviewed eNews, participants have the opportunity to publish and collaborate on research, network with colleagues, stay current on news and events, develop standards, and participate in educational activities. The Council is also building a Distinguished Lecturer Program in which Council members may participate.

Join TECand be a part of the growing electrification revolution! Connect with industry colleagues, practitioners, researchers, students, and all those interested in advancing the field of electric transportation. Participation in the Council is free to all members of sponsoring societies.

Conferences

Within TEC, we support conferences and workshops including the AIAA/IEEE Electric Aircraft Technologies Symposium (EATS) which is a collaboration with the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics). TEC also technically sponsors IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo (“ITEC NA”), IEEE Electric Ship Technologies Symposium (“ESTS”), and other conferences/workshops around the world. A complete listing of all conferences and workshops can be found on the TEC website. https://tec.ieee.org/conferences-workshops

Education

In the area of education, TEC organizes 5-6 webinars a year focusing on more electric transportation in the area of automotive, marine, rail, and aerospace. In 2019, the Council launched an online tutorial series focusing on more electric transportation in the area of automotive. In 2020, we will launch an online tutorial in the area of aerospace in collaboration with AIAA. Members of TEC have free access to the past webinars and receive a reduced rate for tutorials. In addition to the webinars and tutorials, we have 23 education programs hosted on IEEE Xplore for which members receive a 20% discount.

Publications

In 2019, TEC relaunched its eNewsletter which contains articles on emerging technologies in the field of Transportation Electrification.

Standards

TEC also focused on the area of standards development. The Council is looking to promote IEEE transportation electrification standards development efforts, identify standards gaps and opportunities in transportation electrification, and establish standards working groups.

Zedong Zheng
Membership Committee Chair

IEEE TEC Membership and local group committee is in charge of the TEC members development, member service, and communication, as well as local groups construction all over the world.  We will organize TEC promotion and member workshop in the international conference co-sponsored by IEEE TEC.

The volunteers in this committee will take part in the member analysis, communication, and service affairs, organize member activities in your regions. The volunteers also can do an introduction of TEC and organize member communication meetings in the main academic conferences of IEEE.
